Supervisory Development Certificate
For 20 years, Northeast Pennsylvania Manufacturers and Employers Association’s supervisory training programs have been graduating satisfied clients prepared to handle the day-to-day challenges faced by supervisors in manufacturing environments. In fact, supervisory training is Northeast Pennsylvania Manufacturers and Employers Association’s most popular training program.
What makes the Supervisor’s Certificate so popular?
The courses are practical and very hands-on and include real life examples and classroom exercises drawn from manufacturing backgrounds.
Program content was selected by Northeast Pennsylvania Manufacturers and Employers Association staff following a survey of needs expressed by local supervisors.
Time is allotted to discuss specific supervisory issues facing class participants.
What makes up the Supervisor’s Certificate?
The certificate encompasses the basic principles of good supervisory management and addresses specific issues such as employee motivation and interpersonal communication.
How many courses must be taken to receive a certificate?
Participants will receive a certificate of completion following each of the four components. However, to receive the full Supervisor’s Certificate, participants must successfully complete all four components plus one elective course and one relevant topical workshop. Each of the four core courses will earn each participant CEUs from Penn State.

Fundamentals of Supervision: Level One
Penn State Course #MNGMT 7190
This 20-hour course helps foremen and first-line supervisors develop and apply good management techniques. Discussion and exercises provide supervisors with practical tools needed to do the job effectively and include real life examples from manufacturing to help students apply what they learn. Time is also allotted to the discussion of specific supervisory issues facing class participants.
Who should attend: Team leaders, new supervisors, and even experienced supervisors who want to review and build their knowledge and supervisory skills, should attend this course.

Fundamentals of Supervision: Level Two
Penn State Course # MNGMT 7191
This 20-hour course builds upon the basic principles learned in Fundamentals of Supervision Level One by exploring in greater detail the skills of goal setting, motivating, communicating, and problem solving.
Who should attend: Any person who completed Fundamentals of Supervision Level One. Note: Fundamentals of Supervision Level One is a prerequisite for this course.

Interpersonal Communications for Supervisors
Penn State Course # MNGMT 7192
A common trait of successful supervisors is the ability to communicate well with subordinates. It is critical to meeting company objectives, cutting down on employee turn-over, and boosting morale.
This 20-hour course employs two student manuals, exercises, and simulations to demonstrate the key elements to communicating effectively.
Who should attend: Any supervisor or manager wanting to improve management skills through improved communication with subordinates. This course is also required for the Supervisor’s Certificate.

Psychology for Supervisors
Penn State Course # MNGMT 7193
This 20-hour course provides supervisors with an overview of many of the basic theories related to employee attitudes and motivation in the workplace. Starting with a review of basic motivational theories (Maslow, Herzberg, MacGregor, and others), the course focuses on understanding the forces that drive individual employee and work team responses to situations and events in the workplace. A number of contemporary concepts are also addressed, including the importance of change management, personal accountability, coaching, and mentoring as supervisory tools.
Who should attend: Supervisors and managers who want to improve management skills through increased understanding of the forces that motivate employees.
