Forklift (Industrial Power Truck) Operator Certification

Effective March 1, 1999, all operators of forklifts and other powered industrial trucks must be trained and re-certified regularly. Training must be a combination of formal classroom instructions, practical "hands-on" operator training, and an evaluation of the operator's performance in the workplace. Training must be given for every type of powered industrial truck that the operator uses in the workplace. Enrollees will receive instruction, test review, safety rules, daily inspection checklist, ID card and a certificate.

Classroom and Hands-On Training and Evaluation Include:

  • Regulation & training requirements
  • Safe operating procedures
  • Basic lift truck principles
  • Controls & instrumentation
  • Load Handling
  • Stability concepts
  • Special situations & surfaces
  • Pre-operation inspection and maintenance

Please Note: Hands on training in the workplace will take place on a later date, which will complete the certification. Arrangements will be made prior to the class to arrange this final portion of the training.
